Chappell Roan, the rising pop sensation known for her hit songs like "Good Luck, Babe!" and "Casual," secured her first-ever VMA at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. The 26-year-old singer, whose real name is Kayleigh Amstutz, was named Best New Artist at the ceremony held at New York's UBS Arena on September 11th.

Roan, dressed in a striking chainlink dress and headpiece, took to the stage to accept the award and delivered a moving speech read directly from her diary. She expressed gratitude to MTV, her team, family, and friends before dedicating the award to the queer and trans community, acknowledging the drag queens who inspire her and the LGBTQ+ fans who connect with her music.

"I dedicate this to queer and trans people that fuel pop. To the gays who dedicate my songs to someone they love — or hate," Roan stated. She continued, "And thank you to the people who are fans, who listen to me, who hear me when I share my joy and my fears. Thank you. For all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now: I see you. I understand you because I'm one of you, and don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't be exactly who you want to be."

Roan's debut album, "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," released in September 2023, catapulted her to stardom this year, particularly through her energetic live shows on the summer festival circuit. Her music, including hits like "Pink Pony Club" and "Red Wine Supernova," has resonated with fans, and her campy, themed live performances have further solidified her connection with her audience.

The singer also performed at the 2024 VMAs and received nominations in several other categories, including Push Performance of the Year, Song of Summer, and Best Trending Video.
