A Ukrainian drone attack targeting Moscow overnight resulted in the death of one person when debris from a downed drone struck an apartment building, setting it on fire, Russian officials reported.

The incident occurred in the Ramenskoye district, about 50 kilometres southeast of the Kremlin, damaging multiple high-rise buildings.

Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed that several apartments were engulfed in flames due to the drone's remains, with emergency services dispatched to control the fire.

Videos posted on Russian Telegram channels showed flames and smoke billowing from a multi-story residential building, where at least five flats were reportedly destroyed.

Russia’s defense forces said they intercepted over 70 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 15 of them shot down in and around Moscow. Additional drones were intercepted in the Bryansk and Tula regions. In Bryansk, local authorities described the attack as “massive” but reported no casualties.

The drone strike caused significant disruptions, leading to the suspension of more than 30 flights from major Moscow airports, including Zhukovo and Domodedovo.

Moscow's Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Vnukovo airports have resumed normal operations after temporarily suspending flights on Tuesday for safety reasons following the drone attacks, according to Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, via the Telegram messaging app.

Russia's defense ministry reported that air defenses shot down 144 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 20 over Moscow.

The Ministry's statement detailed that "72 UAVs were intercepted over Bryansk region, 20 over Moscow region, 14 over Kursk region, 13 over Tula region," with an additional 25 drones shot down across five other regions.

Ukraine has yet to comment on the strike, which coincided with Russian drone attacks on Kyiv. This marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict, as Ukraine continues to enhance its domestic drone capabilities to target Russian infrastructure
