Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti visited the Quetta Science College, which was recently ravaged by a fire, to inspect the damage and ensure the resumption of educational activities.
Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar also toured the affected classrooms and received a detailed briefing from the vice principal about the incident.
The fire, which caused significant damage to the college's main block, adds further strain to Balochistan's education system, already grappling with a widespread crisis of school closures. Just recently, a provincial report revealed that 3,694 schools are currently inactive, highlighting the severe shortage of resources and teaching staff across the province.
During his visit, the CM expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced the formation of a committee to investigate the fire. "The incident is truly unfortunate, and we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that classes are restored immediately," he said. Bugti instructed the Department of Communication and Construction to expedite the rebuilding of the college's main block and directed that classes should temporarily resume in an alternative building.
In his remarks, the Bugti praised the swift actions of the vice principal, whose efforts after the fire were described as commendable. He further directed the Education Department to formally recognise the vice principal's contribution and encourage such dedication.
"The educational crisis in Balochistan will not be allowed to worsen," Bugti reassured, emphasising the government's commitment to ensuring that students' education continues uninterrupted despite the fire.
This visit comes at a critical time for Balochistan's educational infrastructure, which has faced significant challenges.
