‘Squid Game’ actress targeted in ‘New Nth Room’ deepfake controversy

K-drama actor Park Gyu-young is the latest victim of a deepfake scandal, labeled the ‘New Nth Room’.

K-drama actor Park Gyu-young, known for her roles in 'A Good Day to Be a Dog' and the upcoming 'Squid Game Season 2', has become the latest victim of South Korea's escalating deepfake pornography scandal. 

Park’s agency, Saram Entertainment, issued a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing their commitment to responding with "utmost seriousness" to this breach of privacy. They also expressed gratitude for the support and concerns from fans.

The widespread scandal, which involves the illegal production of synthetic video content using AI technology to superimpose celebrities’ faces onto explicit material, has affected numerous K-entertainment figures. 

This disturbing trend, referred to online as “The New Nth Room,” has particularly surged over the past two months, targeting a number of renowned female K-pop idols and actors.

In response, several entertainment agencies, including JYP Entertainment and CUBE Entertainment, have announced plans to take legal action against those involved in the creation and distribution of these deepfake videos. 

YG Entertainment is also actively working to remove such content. The scandal has drawn parallels to the infamous Nth Room case, with fans calling for swift law enforcement action to protect the privacy and reputations of the affected celebrities.
