Parliament's joint session expected next week

Govt plans to table 15 bills, many previously rejected by former president

ISLAMABAD:

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has finalized preparations for the upcoming joint session of parliament, which is likely to be scheduled for next week.

According to the agenda, it has been decided to pass the proposed pieces of legislation that were previously rejected and returned by former president Dr Arif Alvi during the term of the last PML-N-led coalition government.

Documents reveal that the joint session of Parliament is expected to approve 15 laws, including one related to contempt of Parliament.

The agenda for the session also includes the approval of the Narcotics Control Amendment Bill, the Health Workers Protection and Vaccination Bill, the Generation and Distribution of Electric Power Amendment Bill, the Pakistan Courier and Logistics Regulatory Authority Amendment Bill, and the Islamabad Community Integration Bill. Additionally, the Horizon University Bill, the Pakistan Institute of Management Sciences and Technology Bill, the National Institute of Technology Bill, the National Excellence Institute Bill, and the National University of Security Sciences Bill will also be presented for approval.

Two amendment bills related to the Code of Criminal Procedure, proposed by Senator Irfan Siddiqui and former Member of Parliament Ahmad Hassan, are also included in the agenda for approval.
