Ashlyn Watkins, a standout player for USC Women's Basketball and Columbia native, was recently arrested and charged with Assault and Battery in the first degree, as well as kidnapping. Her attorney, Todd Rutherford, who is also a South Carolina State Representative, is urging the public to remain patient as the legal process unfolds.

Speaking to WACH FOX News, Rutherford emphasized that Watkins maintains her innocence. "We would just ask for patience as we go through this process, and as we unpack the events of two nights ago, remember that Ashlyn maintains her innocence, and we believe that at its conclusion, when all of the facts are out there, that this is simply a misunderstanding," said Rutherford.

Following her arrest, Watkins was granted a $30,000 bond with strict conditions, including no contact with the victim and maintaining a distance of 1,000 yards from the victim’s residence, workplace, school, and place of worship. Despite these legal challenges, Watkins has been permitted to travel out of state for games and practice.

As the investigation continues, Watkins’ legal team is preparing to address the charges in court, hoping to clarify the events that led to her arrest. The situation remains under close scrutiny, with further developments expected as more information becomes available.
