PESHAWAR:

A 47-year-old man who arrived at the Bacha Khan International Airport from a foreign country on Sunday has been confirmed as the fourth patient infected with the mpox virus in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) this year.

The K-P Department of Health’s medical team had identified symptoms of mpox in the individual during routine screening and immediately shifted him to the Police Services Hospital in Peshawar.

Public Health Director Irshad Roghani confirmed the presence of the mpox virus in the patient and stated that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Surveillance Team had detected the virus in him upon his arrival from abroad.

The airport’s medical team had initially flagged the patient during screening due to his visible symptoms and had swiftly transferred him to a hospital for further treatment.

At the Police Services Hospital, a Rapid Response Team had collected blood samples from the patient which had been sent to the laboratory for testing. The Public Health Reference Laboratory has subsequently confirmed the presence of the mpox virus.

Dr Irshad Roghani also mentioned that the patient’s condition was stable and that he was currently receiving treatment at the Police Services Hospital.  The patient is a resident of Peshawar district.
