First it was the administrative red-tape and then the torrential rains followed resultantly, students of government schools have not received free textbooks even though the new academic year started on August 15.
The Sindh government's slogan, "Parhay Ga Sindh tau Barhay Ga Sindh", has become a dream for the poor people.
Parents are facing difficulties due to the non-availability of the textbooks promised to students of government schools. Parents say that at the time of admission, school administrators promised that students would receive free textbooks and copies, but this has not happened.
Poor people think that by enrolling their children in government schools, they can save money and manage their household expenses, but this is not happening. Every year, parents are told that textbooks will be available, but they have to buy them from open market at a high cost to avoid disrupting their children's education.
Parents say that directorate of education says that textbooks have not been printed by the Sindh Textbook Board yet, which is why there is a delay. However, while free textbooks are missing from public schools, they are openly sold in market.
