KARACHI:

An explosion due to gas leakage at a house in Akhtar Colony injured five people including a woman and children.

According to residents, it was a very severe explosion that shook wals and window panes of the neighbouring buildings.

Items in the house were also damaged. The injured individuals were immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital by Chhipa ambulance. A squad of Mahmoodabad police station reached the spot and immediately called the bomb disposal squad.

Among those injured in the gas leakage explosion are 35-year-old Mureed Abbas, 30-year-old Mansa, 8-year-old Muhammad Asghar, 7-year-old Laraib, and 13-year-old Rida.

While talking to media representatives, the duty officer of Mehmoodabad police station said the explosion happened due to leakage from the gas cylinder while making breakfast in the morning. According to local residents, the explosion occurred at around 8am.

Gas supply has been stopped in the area for many years, so the explosion is not due to leakage from Sui Southern lines. There are two cylinders in the house, and it is estimated that the explosion is due to gas leakage from the cylinder. He said that since gas supply was stopped in Akhtar Colony, residents of the area burn wood or use cylinders.
