Rawalpindi organises 'Breastfeeding Week'

RAWALPINDI:

The District Health Authority (DHA) in Rawalpindi has launched Breastfeeding Week centred around the slogan "reducing mortality rates" which will run from August 26 to August 31.

The initiative aims to promote maternal and child health across the district, focusing on protecting mothers from cancer and children from diseases. In an effort to promote breastfeeding, women across the district are being educated about the importance of relying on breast milk and avoiding formula milk.

The campaign is being carried out at the union council level and in educational institutions, with lady health workers leading the charge.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DHA Dr Asif Arbab Niazi, Child Health & Nutrition Program (IRMRNCH) District Health Officer of Integrated Reproductive Maternal Newborn, Dr Naveed Malik and valuation officer Junaid Ahmed participated in the opening ceremony of Breastfeeding Week.

Dr Naveed Malik emphasised the importance of breastfeeding, stating that women who do not breastfeed are not only at a higher risk of developing breast cancer but their children's immunity will also be significantly compromised by the use of formula milk.
