The Chelum of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, the martyrs of Karbala, was observed with devotion and respect on Monday.
Mobile phone services were suspended along the procession routes, and there were restrictions on pillion riding on motorcycles while strict security arrangements were in place. Heavy contingents of police and Rangers were present and sharpshooters were deployed on high-rise buildings along the procession route.
The mourning processions were taken out from different areas of Karachi. In Karachi, the central congregation of the Chehlum was held at the Imam Bargah Shah Najaf on Martin Road under the auspices of Safinatul Mominin Trust. After the recitation of elegies and salutations, the procession emerged from the mosque and joined the central procession at Nishtar Park.
The central procession of the Chelum started at Nishtar Park, organized by the Imamia Students Organization Pakistan, Karachi Division, where the participants offered Zuhrain prayers in congregation at 1:30 pm near Taj Medical Complex on MA Jinnah Road.
