Television personality Hong Suk Chun has issued a public warning about the global spread of Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, urging people to adopt safe practices.
On August 24 KST, Hong shared a news article on his social media platform, highlighting the rapid increase in Mpox cases across various regions, including Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the United States.
In his post, Hong emphasized the need for caution, particularly when it comes to sexual health, stating, "Everyone, please be really careful. It spreads quickly. Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, the U.S.—it’s spreading fast."
He further stressed the importance of safe sex, saying, "Be careful, and make sure to practice safe sex. I keep saying this over and over—there's a reason."
Hong also warned that the situation could worsen in South Korea, especially as people return from holidays, potentially leading to a rise in local cases. He advised, "Be extremely cautious when traveling abroad. With the holidays ending, the number of cases in Korea will likely increase soon."
In a direct message to his followers, particularly younger ones, Hong reiterated the importance of prevention: "My followers, especially my younger ones, remember this: it's just the beginning. Prevention is key. No drugs, yes to condoms. I guess I need to take the lead here."
Mpox, initially an endemic disease in Africa, began spreading globally in May 2022, with most cases now reported in Europe and North America. Hong Suk Chun’s Instagram post, where he shared his concerns, is available for viewing below.
