ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court Shariah Appellate Bench has issued a written verdict in a murder case and apologised for the delay in deciding the matter.

The apex court in its verdict stated that the Supreme Court accepted the appeal of a rape and murder convict on September 18, 2018. The court apologised for taking six years in deciding the case.

The verdict maintained the judges should be aware of their obligation about the dispensation of justice. Unfortunately, the appellate bench of the Supreme Court remained inactive for a long time, stated the SC verdict, adding there is no room in the Constitution for keeping the SC Shariah appellate bench inactive.

The judges of the Supreme Court and other courts should be available to hear criminal cases even in summer vacations, added the verdict.

It further stated that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

It is pertinent to mention that the double-murder and rape case was lodged 21 years ago against a man named Imran from Wazirabad.

The suspect filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against his conviction. The apex court acquitted him for want to incriminating evidence against him.
