The Haripur police have arrested a man for defrauding citizens by posing as a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer.

The suspect, identified as Muhammad Rafiq, son of Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Kalingar Haal Mohalla Babu, was apprehended the City police station.

The arrest was made after the authorities received reports of fraudulent activities carried out by the suspect, who had been posing as a CTD officer to deceive citizens. Muhammad Rafiq was found in possession of a police uniform, two wireless sets, handcuffs, seven mobile phones, a discharge book, and a significant amount of cash totaling Rs1.54 million.

Additionally, he was riding a heavy bike with a police monogram number plate at the time of his arrest.

The suspect had reportedly been involved in a scheme where he extorted money from unsuspecting citizens by promising them jobs, falsely claiming to have connections within the police department.

After selling his own house, Rafiq had moved into a rented residence in the city center, where he continued his fraudulent activities.

A case has been registered against Muhammad Rafiq under sections 216, 170, 171, 419, and 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
