Sindh govt declares public holiday on August 20 for urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai

Notification states all govt, semi-govt offices, schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed on Tuesday

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on August 20 in observance of the urs of revered Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh Chief Secretary on Friday, the holiday will be observed across the province on Tuesday in honour of the great saint and Sufi poet.

The notification states that all government and semi-government offices, schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed on that day. However, employees of essential services will continue to perform their duties as usual.

The urs commences annually on the 14th of Safar and spans three days. According to reports, the three-day event will kick off with poetry marathons, literary conferences, and various other activities.
