Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's visit to Colombia has sparked more questions than answers among locals, according to a royal author and expert. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their four-day tour at the invitation of Francia Marquez, Colombia's first Afro-Colombian vice president, whom they warmly greeted upon arrival.

Royal expert Robert Jobson shared with Express.co.uk that many Colombians are puzzled by their visit, asking, "Are they here to help?" He also remarked that the couple’s arrival didn’t just cause a stir because of the Colombian sun but due to the intense spotlight of their celebrity status.

Jobson, author of Catherine, the Princess of Wales, wondered if the royal couple is merely a "shiny distraction" to divert attention from underlying issues in the country, raising questions about who is covering the costs of their security, flights, and luxurious accommodations.

In contrast, Vice President Marquez issued a statement before their arrival saying, "They will have the exceptional opportunity to engage with leaders, youth, and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress. In addition to these meaningful interactions, the Duke and Duchess will experience the rich heritage of Colombia."

During their visit, Harry and Meghan are set to make their first stop at Colegio Cultura Popular, a local school, followed by a visit to Palenque de San Basilio, a former slave town, and attendance at the Petronio Alvarez music festival in Cali.
