Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General Kinza Murtaza has advised the citizens to check the status of the housing societies before investment.
She said that the citizens should visit the RDA office or website www.rda.gop.pk to get information about legal and illegal housing societies. She added that 71 schemes were approved in Rawalpindi and 74 were under process while 359 schemes were illegal. The status of housing schemes is updated on the RDA website and efforts are also made to spread information for the awareness of the public, she said.
The director general further said that the RDA has been directed to regularly monitor and approve ongoing schemes besides taking legal action against illegal housing societies. The authority had issued legal notices to 560 schemes while 218 societies were challaned and their cases were sent to the magistrate's court, she said, adding that 221 FIRs were also lodged against the rules violators.
Apart from this, the authority has also taken strict legal action against several schemes and sealed offices of 184 schemes and demolished illegal constructions, offices, main gates of 200 societies. The official said that the authorities concerned of the FIA Cyber Crime Wing were also requested to take action against illegal advertisements, booking of plots, and publicity campaigns of illegal housing schemes. Punjab Development Authority, Private Housing Scheme Rules 2021 are enforced and all-out efforts are being made to take strict action under the law against the rules violators, she added
