Divorce may break many hearts in its wake, but as screen veteran Bushra Ansari and daughter Nariman proved when they took to the couch in Good Morning Pakistan, there are still ways to approach it with a positive mindset.

"When I was little, I would always ask my parents to separate so we could close this chapter," revealed Nariman candidly as she discussed her own outlook to her parents' separation. "I knew it would improve our relationships with our parents," she added. "You want to see your parents happy, and when they are not, it definitely has an effect."

Showbiz legend Bushra ended her marriage of 36 years to Iqbal Ansari in 2014. Lamenting the overarching societal view that the very topic of divorce is taboo, daughter Nariman pointed towards how separation is sanctioned by religion, despite what cultural laws state. "You need to have a positive attitude," she said. "Islam clearly allows it, so there shouldn't be any such issue. Just follow your religion. What bigger evidence do you want?"

Warmly lauding her daughter for always looking out for her mother's happiness, Bushra herself had a few more things to add on how different parties behave in the event of a divorce. Stressing the need to avoid airing dirty laundry in public, Bushra noted, "Lots of people badmouth their exes – this is not right," she said. "Do whatever you want in private, but the chowkidar and the policeman and the public do not need all the details of your private life."

According to Bushra, making private details public has an adverse affect when children are involved. "Parents are a children's hero," she reminded her audience. "Don't ever ruin your children's heroes. If anyone badmouths my ex, it is my farz to defend him, because he is still a good father to my daughters."
