The physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, has been extended by 11 days in the new Toshakhana reference, Express News reported.

The hearing took place at Adiala Jail, presided over by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana on Thursday. Both the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were presented before the court.

NAB’s investigating officer, Mohsin Haroon, appeared alongside Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) informed the court that the accused had cooperated with the investigation team only twice during the previous 10-day remand. NAB requested an additional 14-day physical remand to complete the investigation.

Defence lawyers Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry and Intizar Panjutha represented the accused.

After hearing the arguments, the court granted an 11-day extension to the remand and ordered the accused to be presented again on August 19.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have already completed 24 days in remand in connection with the new Toshakhana reference investigation.

On July 13, the couple was acquitted in the Iddat case, however, PTI's relief was short-lived as the accountability watchdog arrested the PTI supremo and his wife in a new Toshakhana reference.

In the new NAB reference, the couple is accused of purchasing a jewelry set from the Toshakhana and selling it. The set is valued at Rs75 million.
