Quinta Brunson, the Emmy-winning creator and star of "Abbott Elementary," and Stephanie Hsu, acclaimed for her breakout role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once," are set to join forces in a new comedy film titled "Par for the Course" for Universal Pictures.

Brunson will not only star in the film but also co-write the script alongside her "Abbott Elementary" collaborator Justin Tan, who will make his feature directorial debut with this project. The film's plot details are currently under wraps, but it is based on an original idea by Brunson.

Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures, known for producing hits like "The Boys" and "Sausage Party: Foodtopia," will produce the film under the company's first-look deal with Universal. Brunson will also produce through her banner, Fifth Chance. Erik Baiers and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal.

In a statement, Brunson expressed her excitement about collaborating with Point Grey and Universal, stating that the comedy is close to her heart. She also expressed her eagerness to work with her "long-term comedy partner and collaborator" Tan, as well as with the talented Hsu.

Seth Rogen, co-founder of Point Grey, echoed Brunson's enthusiasm, highlighting her as one of the most incredible comedic voices working today and expressing the company's honor in working alongside her.

Hsu, who recently starred in Universal's "The Fall Guy" and Lionsgate's "Joy Ride," is set to appear in the upcoming animated feature "The Wild Robot" and will also executive produce and star in the Peacock comedy series "Laid."

This project marks an exciting new chapter for both Brunson and Hsu, as they venture into the world of feature film comedy. With their combined talent and comedic sensibilities, "Par for the Course" promises to be a hilarious and heartwarming addition to Universal's slate.
