Actor Akili McDowell, known for his role in the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) show "David Makes Man," has been charged with murder and theft following the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Cesar Peralta at an apartment complex in East Houston.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on 20 July 2024, at the 5800 block of Uvalde Road. Peralta was found in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Charging documents state that McDowell unlawfully, intentionally, and knowingly caused Peralta's death with a firearm, describing the act as "clearly dangerous to human life."
McDowell, who rose to fame at the age of 15 with his lead role in "David Makes Man," has also appeared in TV shows and films such as "The Astronaut Wives Club." He was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, with his bond set at $400,000.
The actor is scheduled to appear in court on 5 August. This incident marks a significant turn in the young actor’s life, who previously shared his aspirations and career insights with Oprah Winfrey.
