Khyber tribal district gets female ASHO

PESHAWAR:

In a historical first, a policewoman has been appointed as additional station house officer (SHO) in the Khyber tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Mehak Masih has been posted as the Additional SHO in Landi Kotal police station. She is the first female officer to be assigned this duty in the tribal district.

According to DPO Khyber, Salim Abbas Kulachi, the establishment of a women’s desk in the police station has encouraged women to file complaints, and hundreds of issues related to women’s rights, inheritance, and domestic violence have been resolved.

Women police officers are better able to understand and address women’s issues.

Khyber police has taken a revolutionary step by appointing the first female junior police officer, Mehak Parvez Masih, as the Additional SHO.

The women police officers in Khyber are determined to serve the public alongside their male counterparts and play a key role in providing access to justice for millions of tribal women.

Kulachi told The Express Tribune that the appointment of the first female JPO, is a matter of pride. Mehak Parvez is the first female Additional SHO to be appointed in any police station in the Khyber.

The purpose of appointing a female Additional SHO is to encourage and provide access to justice for millions of women. The goal is to provide ample opportunities for women in every field of life in the tribal districts.
