Karachi weather alert: More showers expected to hit city today

Another wet spell is anticipated to persist in the metropolis till August 6

After light showers brought major relief from intense heat in the port city, heavy downpours are anticipated to sweep through the metropolis until August 6.

Various parts of the city, including Saddar, Shahrahe Faisal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Liaquatabad, DHA, Malir, and Federal B area, experienced showers, while the Old City area also reported light rain, allowing residents to enjoy the cooler conditions.

According to the Met Department, Karachi is expected to remain cloudy over the next 24 hours, with a possibility of both light and heavy rain today.

The effects of the current rain system are predicted to last until August 6, and other districts of Sindh are also expected to receive more rain in the coming days.

The minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 27.5 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature likely to range between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius.

The humidity ratio in the air stands at 92%, and sea winds are blowing at a speed of 13 km per hour.

Earlier on Thursday, PMD released rainfall statistics for the past 24 hours in the city, with the highest rainfall recorded in Gulshan-e-Maymar at 11.5 mm.

Faisal Base followed closely with 11 mm, North Karachi saw 10 mm, and Korangi experienced 8.8 mm of rain. The least amount of rain was recorded in Nazimabad with just 1 mm.

Karachi's road and traffic condition

Overnight rain made the weather in Karachi more pleasant. However, the rain has caused significant disruptions, with rainwater accumulating on various roads and overflowing sewage systems adding to the chaos.

Many areas, including the old city area, Soldier Bazaar, Saddar, Urdu Bazaar, Keamari, Bahadurabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Tariq Road, Mehmoodabad, and University Road, were severely affected as traffic flow was disrupted.

The city's drainage system crumbled under pressure, with overflowing gutters and sewage water mingling with rainwater on the streets.

At Five Star Chowrangi, a 24-inch sewer line collapsed, while sewage water flooded streets in Hasan Square, Soldier Bazaar, Ramswami, and the surrounding areas of Saddar.

Citizens in areas like Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Federal B Area, Nazimabad, University Road, Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Surjani Town, and Orangi Town faced immense challenges due to the combination of rain and sewage water.
