George Daniel, the producer and multi-instrumentalist best known as the drummer for The 1975, has released his debut solo track titled "Screen Cleaner."
The track is a dance anthem featuring hi-hats and chopped-up vocal samples, marking Daniel’s first release on his new electronic label, dh2, which he founded under The 1975's label Dirty Hit.
Earlier this month, dh2's launch party took place at Phonox in London. Daniel headlined the event alongside Kelly Lee Owens, the imprint’s first signing, with DJ sets by Oscar Farrell and TimFromTheHouse adding to the lineup.
In recent times, Daniel has gained attention for his production contributions to Charli XCX’s album “Brat.” He is credited on tracks like “Club Classics,” where Charli XCX references him with the lyric “I wanna dance with George,” and the TikTok hit “Apple.”
Throughout the summer, he previewed his solo material at various DJ sets with Charli XCX, including appearances at Glastonbury Festival, Boiler Room in New York, and Ibiza’s Amnesia. Daniel also joined Jamie xx at his “The Floor” event in London.
Since 2002, Daniel has been an integral part of The 1975, collaborating closely with lead singer Matty Healy. His work with the band has garnered multiple awards, including four Brit Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards, and a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song for “Give Yourself a Try.”
Beyond his work with The 1975, Daniel has co-produced albums for The Japanese House and has collaborated with artists such as Caroline Polachek, Beabadoobee, and No Rome.
