Rob Lowe has confirmed that discussions about a sequel to the 1985 film “St. Elmo’s Fire” are underway.

Speaking with “Entertainment Tonight,” Lowe revealed that he and his son, John Owen Lowe, have been in talks with a studio regarding the project.

This comes after the release of the “Brats” documentary by Andrew McCarthy, which has generated renewed interest in the film.

Lowe indicated that while the sequel is a possibility, the project is still in its "very, very, very, very, very early stages." He mentioned that he and the studio have been discussing the sequel for about four months, but no concrete plans have been set.

The original film, directed by Joel Schumacher, featured a cast of notable actors including Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, and Ally Sheedy.

In addition to his work on the sequel, Rob Lowe stars in the Netflix series “Unstable” alongside his son, John Owen Lowe. The series is set to premiere its second season on August 1.

Despite his involvement in the sequel discussions, John Owen Lowe admitted to “E.T.” that he has not yet watched his father’s classic film.

A TV series adaptation of “St. Elmo’s Fire” was proposed in 2019 but did not move forward. For more updates, stay tuned.
