A militant attack targeted a check post on the Pak-Afghan Highway, martyring two policemen and a civilian in the Charwazgai area, around three kilometres from Landi Kotal Bazaar. Over a dozen militants attacked the checkpoint from two sides late in the wee hours of Wednesday.
It was reported that the assailants used thermal technology and automatic weapons to carry out the brazen assault.
Khyber District Police Officer Saleem Abbas told The Express Tribune Peshawar office that terrorists attacked the police checkpoint on the Pak-Afghan Highway near the Landi Kotal Bazar. He said that the martyred law enforcement officials included Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Alamzeb and another policeman.
Police immediately responded to the attack and the terrorists fled under the cover of dark. The initially injured policeman and civilian were rushed to the Landi Kotal Hospital for immediate medical assistance, and later shifted to the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar due to the severity of their condition.
