Princess Eugenie shares throwback picture with cousin Zara Tindall after her Olympic triumph

Princess Eugenie reminisced about the 2012 London Olympics amid Tindall’s silver medal win at the Paris 2024 Games.

Princess Eugenie recently took to Instagram to celebrate her cousin Zara Tindall’s Olympic success. 

On July 29, Eugenie, the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, posted throwback photos from the 2012 London Olympics, where Zara competed as an equestrian. The images included moments with her mother and sister, Princess Beatrice, watching events and cheering from the stands.

"The Olympics is one of the best things in our world," Princess Eugenie captioned the post. "It’s such a special time watching superhuman athletes represent their countries, bringing people together and inspiring generations."

She added, "Some of my most favourite memories from 2012 was being on the sidelines cheering on our heroes. Not to mention, the best moment of all, watching my family win silver in eventing, goooo Z!"

Zara Tindall, 43, followed her parents, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, into the competitive equestrian world, representing Team Great Britain. 

Her cousins, including Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, supported her during the 2012 Olympics, celebrating her team’s silver medal victory in three-day eventing. Zara received her medal from her mother, Princess Anne, who herself competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

Princess Anne has long been involved with the Olympic movement, serving as President of the British Olympic Association since 1983 and joining the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1992. Her commitment to equestrian sports and the Olympics continues to inspire her family.

In 2022, Vogue Australia reported that Zara was training for the 2024 Paris Olympics, though she did not make the final roster. Nonetheless, Princess Anne attended the IOC kickoff meeting in France, marking her first international trip since recovering from a concussion sustained in a horse-related incident at her home. 

Despite her injuries, Princess Anne returned to royal duties, showcasing her dedication by presenting prizes at the British equestrian eventing team’s gold medal ceremony and attending a men’s hockey match with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
