KARACHI:

A traffic policeman was injured during an attempted robbery in Sharafi Goth, Landhi, on Sunday afternoon. Muhammad Adnan, who was deployed at the Traffic Section in Malir City, was attacked by motorcycle-riding muggers near the Mansehra Colony graveyard around 3pm on July 28.

Adnan, who was clad in police uniform and riding his brand new unregistered 125cc motorcycle, was en route to home after his duty at the Toll Plaza on Northern Bypass. As he got onto Malir Nadi Road, three unidentified men on a motorcycle approached him. The pillion rider fired at him, but missed. The second gunshot struck Adnan on the right side of his abdomen. However, he didn’t stop and accelerated his motorcycle in an attempt to escape. The assailants fired two more shots, one hitting Adnan's right calf while the other missed. The muggers appeared to be trying to snatch his motorcycle, but failed. Adnan lost control of his motorcycle and fell a short distance away, after which the assailants fled toward Malir Nadi on their own motorcycle.

The Sharafi Goth police registered the case against the unidentified muggers under Sections 394 and 397 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on the complaint of Adnan.
