TV presenter Laura Whitmore has joined the growing list of Strictly Come Dancing contestants speaking out about negative experiences on the show. She alleges facing "inappropriate behavior" during her 2016 stint, where she was partnered with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice.
Whitmore shared her experience on Instagram, stating that she raised concerns back in 2016 but initially thought it was an isolated incident. She now believes there's a pattern of behavior that needs to be addressed.
While not naming Pernice directly, Whitmore's allegations come after similar claims by Amanda Abbington, Pernice's 2023 partner, who left the show due to PTSD, citing Pernice's behavior as a contributing factor. Pernice denies all allegations.
The BBC has launched an investigation into the claims, which is expected to conclude soon. Pernice has been excluded from the upcoming season's lineup. Despite these controversies, Strictly Come Dancing remains a hugely popular show, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Whitmore's allegations highlight the ongoing conversation about the treatment of participants in reality TV shows and the need for better protection and support.
