SAG-AFTRA voice actor strike unlikely to delay GTA 6 release

Grand Theft Auto 6 is unlikely to be delayed as it was already in production before the strike commenced.

The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike by video game voice actors over the use of AI voice likenesses is an important fight that could disrupt some current video game projects. However, the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, slated for a 2025 release, is unlikely to be affected.

According to the strike stipulations, GTA 6 is exempt from the strike as it was already in production before August 25, 2023. This exemption also covers ongoing live service games, which are under a previous contract.

While workers can choose not to work on the game in solidarity with the strike, they cannot be penalized for doing so. It remains unclear how many of Rockstar's voice actors are SAG-AFTRA members, as the game's cast has not yet been officially revealed.

If GTA 6 is delayed, it will likely be due to the usual challenges associated with developing a AAA game, rather than the strike. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has expressed confidence in a fall 2025 release, but delays are common in the industry.

The full impact of the SAG-AFTRA strike on the video game industry remains to be seen. However, for now, it appears that GTA 6 fans can rest assured that the game's development is unlikely to be significantly impacted.
