Strong police force essential for lasting security: AGP

AGP Awan stresses professionalism and training

ISLAMABAD:

Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan has stressed the importance of a strong, capable, and professional police force for achieving lasting security and order in society.

He made these remarks during a certificate awarding ceremony at the conclusion of a one-week "Professional Exchange Program" for Assistant Superintendents of Police held at the Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad, on Friday.

Addressing the trainees, Attorney General Awan stated, "It is the responsibility of the state to ensure the security of its citizens, to protect their lives, liberty, and property. The Constitution of Pakistan expressly recognises this responsibility."

He emphasised that the police were the premier agency mandated by law to assist the state in maintaining security and order.

He highlighted that the establishment of the rule of law, maintenance of durable peace, and creation of conditions conducive to socioeconomic growth rely heavily on the police force, which is designed to be the premier law enforcement agency.

Discussing the importance of training, the attorney general remarked, "Given the formidable challenges of maintaining law and order, combating terrorism, and addressing extremism in the country, well-thought-out training as conducted by the FJA is essential to meet these challenges."

Offering advice to the young police officers, Awan urged, "You should always be fair in your dealings with people. Come what may, never forsake your professional ethics to attain your objectives. Your actions should always be guided by law, not expediency."

Director General of the Academy, Hayat Ali Shah, also spoke at the event, saying, "The police is a force for the nation and can make society the safest place to live in. Strong and vibrant police means a strong and vibrant state."

He added that the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA), as the premier judicial training academy of the country, has played its role in building their capacity and enlightening them with judicial perspectives during this weeklong training because police are an important stakeholder in the country's criminal justice system.

"We hope these newly recruited PSPs will meet the nation's expectations."

The participants expressed high appreciation for the course content and felt more empowered after the training at the academy.

At the end of the ceremony, 18 trainee PSPs were awarded certificates by the chief guest.
