Celine Dion is poised to make a comeback on stage at the Olympic Games, with rumors suggesting she might perform during the opening ceremony on Friday. This would be the pop icon’s first performance since she paused her tour and withdrew from public appearances following her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis in December 2022.
Dion arrived in Paris on Monday, staying at the Royal Monceau hotel close to the Champs-Élysées, where Lady Gaga, a possible headliner for the opening ceremony, is also residing. Details about Dion’s performance remain confidential.
In an April interview with Vogue France, the Canadian singer hinted that a comeback might be on the horizon. She stated, “I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”
She mentioned that she is working daily to regain her strength. “For four years I’ve been saying to myself that I’m not going back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready… As things stand, I can’t stand here and say to you: ‘Yes, in four months,’” Dion shared with Vogue France. “I don’t know… My body will tell me,” she added.
It seems she might be performing near the iconic Parisian landmark, as the opening ceremony is set to feature a nautical parade along the Seine, ending near the Trocadero with views of the Eiffel Tower. This historic ceremony, taking place outside a stadium for the first time, will highlight Paris' famous landmarks and include 3,500 actors, dancers, and musicians.
Dion is well-acquainted with the Olympics. She opened the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta with her performance of "The Power of the Dream," which was viewed by a record-breaking 3.5 billion people globally.
The renowned artist recently narrated a video titled “L’invincible courage” for Canadian Olympians, alongside Michael J. Fox.
