ISLAMABAD

The Punjab government has directed the Rawalpindi district administration to establish a Sasta Bazaar (cheap market) in Rawalpindi to provide affordable essential items to the public. According to informed sources, the district administration will collect detailed information about the stallholders operating in these Sasta Bazaars.

The initiative will mirror the Cheap Bread scheme, focusing on offering subsidised vegetables, fruits, and grains.

Stallholders in these markets will be required to strictly adhere to the DC rates and the official price control list.

Non-compliance with these rates will result in strict legal action. Members of the price control committee are tasked with preparing reports on market prices and informing the market committee chairman, the commissioner of Rawalpindi, and the deputy commissioner.

Rawalpindi already has several Sasta Bazaars located in areas such as Shamsabad, Haidri Chowk, Committee Chowk, Peshawar Road, Adiala Road, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Gulraiz, Range Road, Dhok Hassu, Murree, and other tehsil headquarters.

These markets offer fruits, vegetables, flour, sugar, ghee, lentils, spices, and other food items at district administration-set prices. Representatives from relevant departments are available in these markets to assist the public, and a special control room has been set up to address complaints.

Khawaja Shahzad, Chairman of the Rawalpindi District Price Control Committee, stated that under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Rawalpindi is set to become a model district.

The commissioner, deputy commissioner, and additional deputy commissioner Muhammad Ehsan have assured full cooperation in this endeavor.
