Argentina has logged over 520,000 cases of dengue since the start of this year, with an outbreak 3.17 times larger than last year, but there were signs of decreasing in the past few weeks, the Health Ministry said Sunday.
In the first 27 weeks of this year, health authorities registered 520,037 cases of dengue, or 97 percent of the 537,249 infections logged in the entire season starting in epidemiological week 31 of 2023, according to the ministry's National Epidemiological Bulletin.
The highest number of cases was logged in the central region with 60.7 percent, followed by the northwest with 24.1 percent, and the northeast with 13.1 percent.
This year has registered 392 deaths caused by the mosquito-borne disease. Currently, the incidence rate stands at 1,141 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, declining for 13 weeks, said the report.
The most frequent symptoms among the deceased were fever, headache, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
