Patrick Mahomes continues his winning streak, securing the Best Athlete in Men's Sports award at the 2024 ESPYs for the second year in a row. Although absent from the ceremony, his coach Andy Reid accepted the award and praised Mahomes' growth as a player, teammate, leader, father, and husband.
Reid emphasized the "phenomenal" experience of witnessing Mahomes' development over the past two years. He also highlighted how much Kansas City appreciates Mahomes' contributions, both on and off the field.
The ESPY win follows Mahomes' recent achievement of being named Super Bowl MVP for the second consecutive year, solidifying his position as a top athlete.
Mahomes faced stiff competition in the Best Athlete category, with nominees including Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, golfer Scottie Scheffler, and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers. However, Mahomes emerged victorious, adding another prestigious accolade to his growing list of achievements.
In addition to the Best Athlete award, Mahomes also clinched the Best NFL Player award, beating out other talented nominees. The Kansas City Chiefs were also nominated for the Best Team award, showcasing the team's overall success.
As Mahomes basks in the glow of his ESPY victories, he is also preparing for the upcoming NFL season, with the Chiefs' mandatory training camp set to begin on July 21.
