Carol Bongiovi passed away on Tuesday at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., just days before her 84th birthday. Jon Bon Jovi, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed their profound loss to PEOPLE, highlighting Carol's indomitable spirit and influence on their lives.

A former Playboy bunny and entrepreneur, Carol founded Bon Jovi's fan club and played a pivotal role in the band's early years. She met her husband, John Bongiovi, Sr., while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959. The couple raised their family in Sayreville, N.J., before settling in Holmdel, N.J.

Bon Jovi has credited his parents, including his father, as essential figures in his success, emphasizing their unwavering belief in his abilities. Reflecting on their impact, he described how their encouragement shaped his determination and career trajectory.
