After experiencing light to heavy rainfall earlier this week, Karachi is set to see more wet weather today—mostly in the evening—according to the latest reports from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office forecasts light rain and drizzle today, with partly cloudy skies and intermittent light rain expected on Thursday. Occasional winds are also anticipated during this period.
The lowest temperature in the city is reported to be at 30°C, with the maximum expected to range between 35°C and 37°C.
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) issued an alert warning that the current monsoon system could impact Sindh within the next 12 to 24 hours.
Areas including Kashmore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Umerkot, Badin, Mithi, and Tharparkar are likely to face localised urban flooding and moderate inundation in streams and nullahs due to anticipated rainfall.
Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to follow instructions from local authorities to mitigate flood risks.
Yesterday, the downpour inundated low-lying areas as roads were swamped, triggering traffic snarls in several neighbourhoods. The sky was overcast with dark clouds which dumped moderate to heavy rain in various neighbourhoods of the city. Suburbs witnessed strong winds gusting up to 50km/h.
Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall at 58.2mm. Other notable rainfalls were observed in Old Airport (31 mm), Orangi Town (30 mm), and University Road (19.8 mm).
Apart from these, other areas of the city, including Gulshan-e-Hadid, Sharae Faisal, Federal B Area, Saddar, II Chandragar Road, Gadap Town, Sumanabad, Gulshan-e-Maymar, North Karachi, Garden West, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Hasan Square, North Nazimabad, Pehlwan Goth, Tariq Road, Jail Road, and Old Sabzi Mandi also received moderate and heavy rain.
Prior to the rainfall, Karachi had been enduring hot and humid conditions, with stagnant sea breezes intensifying the heat.
