Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Ridley Scott's highly anticipated sequel, 'Gladiator II.' The film stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington, and is scheduled for release on November 22.

Written by David Scarpa from a story co-created with Peter Craig, 'Gladiator II' is set years after the original film. Paul Mescal takes on the role of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix in the 2000 film. The plot follows Lucius, who lives peacefully with his family in Numidia until General Marcus Acacius' (Pedro Pascal) invasion forces him into slavery. Inspired by Maximus (played by Russell Crowe in the original), Lucius decides to become a gladiator and challenge the rule of Emperors Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn).

The film's star-studded ensemble also includes Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, and others. The producers are Douglas Wick, Ridley Scott, Lucy Fisher, Michael Pruss, and David Franzoni, with Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, Raymond Kirk, and Aidan Elliott serving as executive producers.

'Gladiator II' will open on November 22, competing with Universal Pictures’ 'Wicked' and Angel Studios' drama 'Bonhoeffer.' Paramount’s upcoming slate also includes 'Transformers One' on September 20, 'Smile 2' on October 18, 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' on December 20, and 'Better Man' on December 25.
