‘General Hospital’ Actor Doug Sheehan passes at 75

Doug Sheehan, known for his role in the soap opera General Hospital, has passed away at the age of 75.

Wyoming-based Kane Funeral Home publicly announced Sheehan's passing, stating that the actor passed away "peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, with his loving wife at his side."

"Services are pending at this time. Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements," the announcement continued. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

The California-born actor made his television debut in 1978 on Charlie's Angels, but his breakthrough came a year later when he portrayed lawyer Joe Kelly on General Hospital.

Sheehan was part of the cherished soap opera until 1982, earning a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Daytime Drama Series that same year.

In 1983, he joined the Knots Landing spinoff of Dallas as reporter Ben Gibson and the second husband of Valene Ewing (Joan Van Ark).

Following the end of his run in 1988, he took on the role of stockbroker Brian Harper in the NBC sitcom Day by Day, which ran for two seasons and co-starred Linda Kelsey and Christopher Daniel Barnes. His television credits also include roles in MacGyver, Diagnosis Murder, Columbo, Cheers, and the TV series Clueless.

Sheehan also graced the big screen in films like the 1979 comedy 10, 1982's Victor/Victoria, and 1995's Cops n Roberts.

His final on-screen appearance occurred as a guest star in What I Like About You (featuring Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth) and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (starring Melissa Joan Hart).

Sheehan's passing sparked mourning on social media. One user on X remarked, "He hadn't been on #GH in 42 years, and the fans never forgot him and never stopped asking for his return. Not only is it impressive, but a testament to Doug Sheehan."

Another saddened fan expressed,"Very sad to hear that actor Doug Sheehan, whom I enjoyed very much on Knots Landing and who was also on General Hospital, has died. He was 75 years old. #ripdougsheehan."
