Johnny Wactor, who passed away on May 25 at the age of 37, left a significant impact on his fellow General Hospital cast members, especially Sofia Mattsson, who portrayed his on-screen wife. During an interview with PEOPLE at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards, Mattsson fondly recalled Wactor's supportive and friendly nature.

Mattsson described Wactor as "super goofy" and someone who always "made you feel so comfortable and at home." Reflecting on their time together, she mentioned, "We shared so many great memories, so many tears and laughter on and off screen."

One of Mattsson's favorite memories involved a particularly emotional storyline where their characters lost a baby. She expressed admiration for Wactor's dedication to his role, stating, "It was so beautiful, watching him make the reality of becoming a father, a reality for himself."

Wactor, known for his roles in NCIS, Westworld, and Criminal Minds, was tragically shot and killed on May 25 while ending his shift as a bartender. He encountered three armed individuals attempting to steal his catalytic converter. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner determined that Wactor died from a gunshot wound to the chest, classifying his death as a homicide.

Following the news of his death, fans, coworkers, and loved ones, including Mattsson, paid tribute to him. Mattsson posted a heartfelt Instagram tribute, saying, "I admire the man he was so much and I’m a better person for having known him. We shared so many special moments, both on and off screen, and I will forever cherish them deeply in my heart. You will be so incredibly missed Johnny… I’m sure you’re already busy taking care of everyone up there."

Wactor's passing has left a void in the General Hospital community, but his memory continues to be celebrated by those who knew and worked with him.
