ISLAMABAD:

The opposition remains unmoved on the name of Sheikh Waqas Akram for the position of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief.

The government had sought four names from the opposition for the position of the PAC chairperson and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) chief whip Aamir Dogar met the ruling PML-N’s MNA Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Wednesday in this connection.

The SIC was a little-known party wherein the elected PTI lawmakers took refuge after being disallowed to contest the general elections on their original electoral symbol.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dogar said that the opposition had already submitted the name of Akram to the government for the position of the PAC chief. He added that during the meeting, he had requested the PML-N MNA to consider Akram’s name.

“I came today to answer this letter [seeking four names from the opposition]. The government has asked for four names. The opposition has already given Sheikh Waqas Akram’s name for the PAC chairman,” he added. “It has been requested that the name of Sheikh Waqas Akram should be considered.”

Dogar continued that the opposition had submitted Akram’s name to the government for the PAC top slot after much consideration.

However, he maintained that the government was arbitrarily making its moves in violation of the Constitution and law.
