DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A woman stabbed her three children with a knife, while a man jumped along with his three children into the Indus river in separate incidents in Dera Ghazi Khan.

The woman attacked her children Deen Muhammad, Shahwaiz and Shahzain with a knife in the Three Marla Scheme near Model Town.

The children suffered wounds to the neck and stomach and were rushed to the Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital.

Two of the children were reportedly to be in a critical condition.

The Civil Lines police arrested the mother of the victims.

According to the children’s father Moin Akhtar, his wife had a history of mental illness.

The second incident occurred on the Ghazi Ghat Bridge, where a man threw his three children —Mudassar Omar, Bisma and Dua Zahra — into the Indus river and then jumped in himself.

A passer-by alerted the patrolling police nearby who succeeded in rescuing the three children from the turbulent river water with the help of boat owners.

The man who had attempted to take his own life and drown his children was also rescued and taken into custody.

The Darahma police initiated legal proceedings regarding the incident.

The mother of the children recounted that her husband Tanveer had sought money from her in the morning to buy shoes and take along the victims to drink fruit juice. He took the money and left with the children on a motorcycle, while his wife busy preparing for her brother’s wedding.

She said her neighbours had informed her that her husband had thrown the children into the river.

The suspect had come to attend his brother-in-law’s wedding in Samina Town.

His wife said her husband was a mental patient undergoing treatment.

Patrolling Police SP Malik Tanveer Ahmed reunited the rescued children with their mother.
