The prisoners were handed over to Pakistan Rangers on Wednesday (today) at the Wahga Border.
All four belong to a Hindu community in interior Sindh. They were arrested for crossing into India through the Sindh border without documents. One of them was arrested in 2001 while the other three were arrested in 2008.
Chidambaram had announced the release of these prisoners during his visit to Pakistan at the Saarc ministerial conference.
Pakistan had already released 25 Indians jailed in Pakistan as a good will gesture.
