Ray J makes emotional suicide confession, blames BET awards mismanagement

Ray J shared a photo of himself from the 2024 BET Awards on his official Instagram page, accompanied by a harrowing caption.

Next to the Power 105.1 post from June 30, Ray J wrote a poignant and concerning message in red, alluding to an incident backstage at the show and afterward.

"The s--- that. Is Happening is mind blowing - it's making me suicidal and uncomfortable with the perception of reality!"

Ray penned the post on Monday morning (July 1), shortly after a disagreement occurred outside GloRilla's BER Awards after-party involving a Zeus Network executive. 

What happened with Ray J at the BET awards after party?

Reportedly, Ray and the executive engaged in a heated verbal exchange about potential physical confrontation, with bodyguards intervening to calm the situation.

The R&B artist attempted to throw a punch but missed hitting anyone. At one point, he allegedly retrieved a backpack from his car and returned to the crowd.

The contents of the bag are unknown, but Ray's team successfully guided him back into the vehicle, and they departed without further incident.

What are Ray J’s claims against the BET awards management?

In his post, Ray J focused solely on the altercation. He alleged that BET barred him from backstage after he had been working there and taking a break. He questioned their reasons, saying, : "I don't know who they didn't want me to see -- it was weird." 

He also expressed frustration with the network, stating, "THEY PAID ME TO SHUT UP AND I DID! I FEEL BAD AND HATE MYSELF FOR IT! I DON'T WANT ANYMORE OF YOUR DIRTY MONEY!!"

In his lengthy post, he criticized money as corrupting and people as deceitful. The 43-year-old also bid farewell and apologized to his sister, Brandy, pledging, “I will make it right, I won't let them get away with it!"

He concluded the post cryptically: “I TOLD THE PEOPLE CLOSE TO ME THAT I FELT LIKE SOMETHING IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. F--- IT, I SAID IY [sic]"

Has Ray J been dealing with an ongoing struggle with suicide?

This isn't the initial instance Ray has shared alarming posts discussing suicide. In October 2022, he posted a series of worrying messages and videos where he was on a ledge at night, contemplating jumping and reflecting on the significance of his children in his decision-making. 

He also questioned the nature of life as an illusion and speculated about his true reality possibly being in his next life. Ray also polled his followers, asking them if he should take the leap as well.

Ray did not immediately respond to the video or comments, but R&B icon Brandy later posted a heartfelt tribute to her brother. She shared a throwback photo of them together with the caption "Need you bro @rayj" with prayer hands at the end.
