In a recent interview with Billboard, Luke Bryan, 47, hinted at who might step into Katy Perry’s shoes as a judge on American Idol.
Bryan mentioned several names, including Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Meghan Trainor, as potential replacements.
According to Bryan, the selection process for a new judge has been kept under wraps by Disney, leaving him and fellow judges Lionel Richie and Ryan Seacrest in the dark about their own return.
“We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back,” Bryan stated. He emphasized Disney’s meticulous approach in finding a suitable replacement for Perry, acknowledging the challenge of filling her role effectively.
Both Cyrus, 31, and Pink, 44, have previous experience in similar roles, with Cyrus having coached on The Voice and Pink having expressed reservations about stepping into Perry’s shoes. Meanwhile, Trainor, 30, has openly expressed her eagerness for the role, describing it as her "dream job."
Perry, 39, announced her departure from American Idol earlier this year, citing a need to explore new opportunities despite her fondness for the show. Bryan, however, indicated that her decision wasn’t entirely unexpected within the Idol circle.
“I had heard whispers that she was thinking about it,” Bryan revealed in an interview with Taste of Country in April.
As the speculation continues, fans await official announcements from Disney regarding the lineup for the next season of American Idol.
