Gypsy Rose Blanchard wants to ‘give back’ to Make-A-Wish after Muchausen by proxy trauma with mother

Blanchard opened up about how her mother made her ‘look like a sick child’ in order to secure a wish trip to Disney.

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, a survivor of Munchausen by proxy, is determined to use her harrowing past to benefit others. In a recent Q&A session on her YouTube channel, the 32-year-old expressed her desire to collaborate with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 

Reflecting on her own childhood ordeal, Blanchard revealed how her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, manipulated the system to secure a wish trip to Disney by portraying her as a sick child.

"Munchausen by proxy is a rare and disturbing form of abuse where a caregiver fabricates or induces illness in a child for attention," Blanchard explained. 

Her mother subjected her to unnecessary medical interventions throughout her youth, eventually leading Blanchard to serve time in prison for Dee Dee's stabbing death.

During her YouTube video, Blanchard emotionally recounted her unwitting participation in a Make-A-Wish-funded trip to Disney World at age 10. "It breaks my heart to know that," she admitted. 

"So, I personally have made a donation to Make-A-Wish because I feel like there is nothing that I can ever say that will make that right."

Blanchard emphasized her commitment to Make-A-Wish and her passion for prison reform initiatives. 

"These causes are deeply rooted in my heart," she affirmed. "I understand the injustices faced by inmates, having experienced confinement myself. While I accept responsibility for my actions, I aim to advocate for those wrongly accused."

In preparation for her advocacy work, Blanchard intends to pursue psychology courses to enhance her understanding and ability to assist others effectively.
