Ming Luanli bullied for being Nicki Minaj’s sister

Ming Luanli shares her experiences of being bullied in school and the challenges of growing up with a famous sibling.

Nicki Minaj's sister, Ming Luanli, recently opened up about her rap career and the challenges of being the sibling of a world-famous hip-hop star. 

Ming shared her experiences during an appearance on the 'We in Mami' podcast, discussing her budding music career, her sexuality, family dynamics, and the impact of her sister's fame.

Ming admitted that growing up with a famous sister was difficult. "I'm not gon' lie, when people know who you are, it is a hard thing to ignore," she said. Ming explained that from primary school through secondary school, she faced constant inquiries about Nicki Minaj. "It was either like they would ask me about my sister or ask me just weird things that made me feel uncomfortable. Made me feel like I was not meant to do singing, I was not meant to be rapping."

Ming confirmed that these incessant questions led to bullying and uncertainty. "I used to be bullied a lot for it," she revealed. "People used to say, 'If this person was your sister, why didn't she do this for you? Why didn't she do that for you?' At a young age, you don't know how to answer questions like those. I felt not only attacked, I felt vulnerable. I felt like I was by myself."

Despite these challenges, Ming clarified that she harbours no resentment towards Nicki Minaj. She noted that although Nicki has not actively helped boost her career, there is no ill will between them. "I have no hate for Nicki," she affirmed, acknowledging their shared bond through their father.

Ming's candid discussion sheds light on the pressures and scrutiny that come with being related to a high-profile celebrity, while also highlighting her determination to forge her own path in the music industry.
