Written by Downton Abbey creator and Oscar winner Julian Fellowes, the third film is produced by Gareth Neame, Fellowes, and Liz Trubridge. The beloved cast members, including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, and many more, will be reprising their roles.
Focus Features and Universal Pictures International have announced a September 12, 2025 release date for Downton Abbey 3, currently filming in the UK under the direction of Simon Curtis, who also helmed the previous installment, Downton Abbey: A New Era.
The film will also feature new additions to the ensemble, such as Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, Arty Froushan, and others.
Downton Abbey 3 is produced by Carnival Films, a part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. The first Downton Abbey movie, released in 2019, remains Focus Features' highest-grossing film, earning over $194 million worldwide.
