Moto AI enhances the Razr Plus, with features like improved portraits, autofocus in videos, and long exposure images

Motorola has unveiled two new foldable phones, the Razr Plus and Razr, for 2024. These devices feature significant upgrades, including enhanced cameras, larger cover screens, Moto AI, and Google Gemini. The announcement was made by the Chicago-based company, owned by Lenovo, during a press event in Brooklyn as mentioned by cnet website. 

The Razr Plus and Razr come in a variety of vibrant colors, a throwback to the original 2004 Razr V3. The new Razr Plus even includes a pink option, reminiscent of the model famously used by Paris Hilton. The strategy behind the new releases is to blend fashion, fun, and innovation, aiming to attract customers to the foldable phone market.

Despite foldable phones making up a small percentage of overall phone sales, Motorola's approach appears successful. Research firm Counterpoint reported a 1,473% increase in Razr shipments in early 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This success likely encouraged Motorola to maintain last year's price points for the new models: $1,000 for the Razr Plus and $700 for the Razr.

Both phones feature vegan leather backs in various textures and faux suede, giving them a luxurious feel. They also boast a new, smaller hinge, reducing the screen crease and enhancing durability. The Razr models are rated IPX8 for water resistance but lack an official dust resistance rating this year.

The phones' internal screens are brighter, reaching up to 3,000 nits, and support Motorola's new water touch technology, allowing functionality even in the rain. The Razr Plus offers a 165Hz refresh rate on its main 6.9-inch display, while the regular Razr's display supports up to 120Hz.

Significant changes include the Razr Plus's new 4-inch cover screen and updated software, allowing any Android app to be opened. The regular Razr features a 3.6-inch cover screen, similar to last year's Razr Plus.

Camera upgrades are notable, with both phones having a 50-megapixel main camera and the Razr Plus including a 2x telephoto lens instead of an ultrawide camera. The Razr Plus also incorporates a Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chip and a 4,000 mAh battery, while the regular Razr uses a MediaTek Dimensity 7300x chip and a 4,200 mAh battery.

Moto AI enhances the Razr Plus, offering features like improved portraits, autofocus in videos, and long exposure images. The device also includes Google Gemini and exclusive AI features not available on older models.

Motorola also introduced the Moto Tag, a Bluetooth tracker compatible with all Android phones. It supports Google's Find My Device network and includes a button for locating phones and taking remote photos. Priced at $30, it will be available in the US on August 2.

Preorders for the Razr Plus start on July 10 at $1,000, and the regular Razr will be available for $700. Both phones will be sold through T-Mobile, AT&T, Motorola's website, Amazon, and Best Buy.
