On Monday, June 24th, Anthony Hopkins posted a video on Instagram showing him dancing with Sir Ian McKellen.
This occurred following McKellen's recent accident during a performance of "Player Kings" in London, where he fell off stage and suffered injuries, including a fractured wrist.
The actor from The Lord of the Rings was hospitalized after the incident, which occurred on June 17, 2024.
The actor from Hannibal praised his friend's resilience as he posted the video online, expressing his deep affection for him. They were captured dancing to Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me to the End of Love" in matching checkered jackets.
“Today I celebrate my dear friend, Ian and his unbreakable spirit… I love this man,” he wrote in the caption.
It should be noted that the filming date of the video is currently unknown. In his caption, Hopkins mentioned that both were dressed in Gucci attire. He also expressed gratitude to Salma Hayek, who played Pina Auriemma in the 2021 film House of Gucci.
Ian McKellen and Anthony Hopkins appeared together as co-stars in the 2015 movie "The Dresser."
Ian McKellen is going to “make a speedy and full recovery” following his fall.
According to BBC News, the 85-year-old actor had a fall while performing at the Noel Coward Theatre in London. The incident occurred during a fight scene, where Ian McKellen lost his balance and cried out due to pain.
Following the accident, the audience was promptly asked to leave to allow McKellen to receive treatment privately. He was then swiftly taken to the hospital, and a theater spokesperson confirmed that the evening show was canceled to ensure the actor could rest adequately.
According to BBC, the spokesperson also mentioned that the actor was expected to “make a speedy and full recovery.”
After the incident, Ian McKellen informed Deadline, “Doctors have assured me that my recovery will be complete and speedy and I am looking forward to returning to work.”
